Seminar 2010

Summer Camp 2010

Written by GM AngeloGrand master Angelo and Master John are so proud to have put on their second summer camp this is a fantastic yearly event drawing participants from Europe and all over the UK., Offering quality martial arts training set in the beautiful location of the New Forest.Participants arrived in the New Forest in plenty of time to put up their tents on the Friday night some people opted to stay in brick tents (cheating a little) It was great to catch up with old friends and make some new ones the wonderful thing about martial arts is its like one big family. It is now the second time I have put up a tent I would like to say that I don’t seem to be getting any better, although I think Master John had been in secret training since last year or it could have been Lorraine guiding him, jury is out on that one. Our first training was on the Friday night with Master John taking us through our paces with the Abaniko Tres Puntas basics, always looks easy but as Master John explained the key is in totally relaxing to get the flow going. To finish our first night training we were treated to the small circle ju-jitsu principles by Master Angelo, it was explained just by obeying some basic principles such as Fulcrum, Lever , Base it makes the techniques you use so much more effective. Pizzas, beers and chatting in the marquee was a welcome end to the evening. After a restful sleep Saturday morning came quickly, although George the boxer (Adam’s dog not a martial artist) was snoring a bit , We were going to nudge him but thought better of it as he is bigger than most of us. The Girls got us off to a good start with bacon rolls which got people stirring with the sound and smell of sizzling bacon. Dan coaxed us into doing a gentle morning warm up good job it was gentle some of us could not remember where we put our Zimmer frames. Master Barry started the days training with an impressive display of not being there when the opponent strikes his explanations of spacial awareness made everyone take note of these simple but effective concepts. Master Barry will be doing and showing some special Ninjitsu training on next years camp with the weapons used from that style (cant wait) Next up was Master Pip, Everyone loves his gentle and the modest manner he conducts himself in and his brand of Aikido leaves you in no doubt of who’s in control, always done with a smile and good humour, Master Pip stressed how many principles we should be working to when doing our martial arts, people were shouting out the answers not many I might add, then out from his gi he produced a till roll which seemed to stretch for miles , he stated that there was at present over 200 principles and things you must take note of when doing any technique, no one excepted that there was that many and you could see everyone’s jaw drop in disbelief. We were very pleased to welcome some fabulous guest instructors, first to enthrall us was Master Tong of Combat Wing Chun with a stunning display of speed and grace, he went around the participants inviting them to see if they could block before he struck them on the chest, even after giving them all a head start with distance people were failing badly but still laughing as that’s what the camp is all about. Leaning but still having fun!!!!!!! Thanks to Master Parisi for introducing his powerful style of Qi Kwon do, its nice to see the pads being utilized for training and not just hitting fresh air and many thanks to Adam Illidge of Real Life Combat. Written by GM Angelo After the guest instructors Master John took us through pressure points, he explained them in a simple manner without the Mystic Meg stuff or confusing terminology which plagues martial arts today and any one who wants to add them to their system. His warm and friendly manner had everyone absorbing the information fully even after some buzzing up of the head fortunately Master John took us through head ache recovery which got every one back to their natural state. So many instructors just hit the points to show them in an egotistical way so its a refreshing change to have an instructor who just shows they work enough without doing any damage and also cares enough about the students to do the correct recovery so that no one goes home injured or hurt. Thank you Master John. The day seemed to fly by after dinner and a break to visit the forest and sea side Abaniko Tres Puntas was the order of the day this is a beautiful flowing art , done with grace, speed and power , Master Angelo showed the many flowing drills of the style from long range to short then incorporating empty hand applications after a whole days training you could see peoples heads were getting fried and not just from the sun it was all done in good humour and even though people were tired the knowledge gained made it worth while. Saturday night was finished with a BBQ and drinks with DJ Stevo spinning the discs but to our disappointment no Agadoo maybe next year. Stevo also revealed to us another one of his many talents by making all the kids and adults blow up balloon shapes which ranged from Alien hats , giraffes , dogs , swords and a number of other shapes I could not possibly mention, It was really funny watching GM Bob taking on all comers with his fighting hat. Thanks Steve for all your hard work. Sunday came quickly and after what is becoming a tradition of the bacon sandwiches Dan got us going with a warm up and some great stretching to relive some of the soreness of the previous two days training. We had 3 hours training on the Sunday but we managed to cover more Pressure points , Aikido , Taijitsu and Abaniko Knife training Wow it went fast!!!!!!! Everyone received a course certificate and the highlight of the day was the presentation to GM Bob Carruthers after 4 decades in the martial arts receiving his 7th Dan award, it is well deserved and he continues to be an inspiration to all of us, congratulations Thanks to everyone who came to the camp Master John and I really appreciate it and to all those who put in the hard work behind the scenes to ensure the camp ran so smoothly.Next years camp will feature GM Rene Tongson of the Philippines, GM Angelo , Master John , and more special guest instructors , as well as the seminar we have Archery , Stick Fighting and much more.On the site will be the facilities of Shower Blocks , Toilets , Water and Bacon rolls in the morning what more can you ask look out for details soon on this site.Thank You and hope to see you all again next year!!!!!!!
